artificial insemination

Artificial insemination is the induction of pregnancy by means other than sex. Usually this is simply the placement of semen from a male donor in the genital tract of the female. Insemination derives from the root word semen which is the sperm containing fluid produced by males during sex. To inseminate is to place semen in the female genital tract either by natural means i.e. sex or by artificial means.
